Luck!

Dear Reader,
In the book, The Lucky One, by Nicholas Sparks, a man seems to be unlucky until he finds a picture of a woman on a beach in Iraq at a military base. He puts the picture on a bulletin board in the base to see if someone would retrieve the picture, but no one did, so he kept the picture. He went to a poker game that night and after losing four nights of poker, he didn’t think that he would win anything. He won all of his money back and more that night. His best friend, Victor, said it was “luck”, but Logan Thibault, the man who found the picture, didn’t believe in superstitions. After he and Victor got out of the military, they went on a fishing trip where Victor got hit head on by a boat. At that, Logan decided to walk from Colorado to find the girl in the photo… if that would ever happen. He decided to stop in a little town in North Carolina called Hampton. He stops at a bar and asks people if they have seen the woman in the photo. He says that he came to this town three years ago and met the girl, but lost her number and couldn’t remember her name. The guys say that he shouldn’t mess with her because she was the ex-wife of the county deputy. He walks the other way in hopes to not attract people who try to follow him. He made the right decision. He walked right on the path leading to the woman’s house and work. Logan walked up the path with his dog, Zeus, right beside him. He saw the woman in the photo step out of the dog kennel, the place she works, which her mom, Nana, started. Logan smiles and stares at the woman. Her name is Beth. Logan decided to ask for a job since he came here with nothing but a few clothes, some food and water for him and some food and water for Zeus. Beth decides to give him an interview since they really need help since Nana’s stroke. Beth thinks that Logan is crazy and weird, so she goes inside her house and asks Nana if she could go interview Logan. Nana accepts him and he starts to work. Ben was scared of him because he thought that he was dangerous because of what his mom had told him. He grew attached to him and Zeus and finally Beth grew fond of him. They start to fall in love until Keith tries to tear them apart. Keith tells Beth that Logan was dangerous and that he had a picture of Beth from when Drake gave it to her. She wasn’t sure whether to believe him or not because Keith had followed her on all of her dates and thought he was lying. She decided to ask Logan and he confessed. He told her everything and they got into a huge fight, but made up a few hours later. Keith came over and was threatening Beth. Ben ran out to the creek and it had been raining for more than a week. He had the picture in his back pocket, but he was drowning and Logan and Keith tried to save him. Zeus saves Ben but Logan and Keith don’t get out so easily, and it ends in someone dying.

The theme I chose for this story was luck. The picture helped Logan through tough times in the military and other times in his life. He gave it to Ben because he felt that he Ben needed it the most. Luck is the key to “survival” in this story.

                                                                        Sincerely,

An Obituary for Logan Thibault.

Logan Thibault was a very unlucky person until he found a picture of a woman. He was very lucky after that, winning in poker games, finding the woman after walking from Colorado, and falling in love with her. He died on May 22nd, 1978 at the age of 33 by drowning in a river after giving the picture to Beth's son, Ben.

A day in the life of Keith Clayton, the town's deputy...
You know the word unlucky when you see them... but Keith Clayton, Hampton's own deputy is an understatement. You should think that you're unlucky when a guy you hate shows up on the doorsteps of your ex-wife, who you have been trying to get back together with. He had been hunting Logan Thibault, pronaunced tee-bow, down for more than a month, and thought he just left Hampton until he shows up in Beth's life, and had taken a job there at their family dog kennel! Also, you would think he would be more careful about what he does, since he is the DEPUTY. He had been taking pictures of nude coeds who were on spring break and didn't see the NO NUDE PEOPLE sign.  Logan had found the camera though, and Keith didn't want that camera to show up in the Sheriff's Department where his dad, the county  sheriff would see it and fire him. Another reason that he should think he was unlucky was that Ben, his son, hated him.. but loved Logan! There was another reaason to hate Thigh-bolt, as Keith called him. Next is Beth finding out that Keith had been following her on all of her dates and scaring off her dates so they would never talk to her again. The last thing that would surely make him think that he was unlucky was that he drowned in a river trying to save his son that got saved by an intelligent dog.

Reflection
My first genre, the Obituary, was showing that Logan Thibault, the supposedly lucky one, wasn’t so lucky after all. The next genre, the menu, was used to so you could have a look at what REAL lucky charms are, not just some picture of a girl. Next was a wanted  poster, and that was used to show that Keith Clayton, the town’s deputy, was not who everyone thought he was, and did many crimes. The last genre, the day in the life of… Keith Clayton, was used because he was the very unlucky one, and the theme of this multi genre project is luck, and he never had it. Some difficulties I had with this were finding things to do for my genres. Thinking of things to do is a lot harder than it used to be when I was a little kid. What I learned about these genres is that they are very unique and you have to be extra creative when dealing with a multi genre project like this one.
